History and Founders
Elly Zanin and Michelle Schecht, in 2005, co-created and founded Commit 2B Fit®.
Schecht came from a marketing and management background. As a high-level executive, she specialized in implementing solution-based programs. As a mom, she saw a growing need for tools to help kids and parents stem the tide of childhood obesity.
Zanin recognized the same problem in her role as Physical Education Curriculum Specialist for Broward County (Fla.) Public Schools. A life-long educator, she saw first-hand the gradual diminishment of health-related classes and the rapid rise of obesity among young kids. Zanin developed a program to promote physical activity both in and out of school. Simultaneously, Schecht developed a nutrition program with one of the nation’s largest supermarket chains and was looking for ways to involve schools
Schect and Zanin were introduced and quickly realized they shared both a passion for holistic wellness and a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality. In short order, the pair created Commit 2B Fit.
Today, the core Commit 2B Fit program has been implemented in hundreds of schools throughout South Florida and is being implemented in schools across the nation. During that time, Commit 2B Fit has also expanded its programs to include an After School / Summer Program, Adult Journal and Safe Routes to School Program.
